Welcome new baby S. This gorgeous newborn baby girl made me swoon. She is just the sweetest little thing ever. She was super alert during her newborn session which means I got lots of snuggle time. although her happiest place is with her beautiful mama.  She had me working for these image but we did get so many great ones!

I hope you enjoy a peek into her newborn photography session...

Newborn Photography In Home vs In studio| Jacki G. Photography LLC | Family & Newborn Photographer | Richmond,

When you first find out you are pregnant it feels like you have all the time in the world. You’re careful not to start buying things too early and wait longingly for each scan to see that little face. And then, in a flash 9 months has passed and your baby is here. A great way to capture those early moments to remember forever is with a Newborn Photo shoot.

I used to be know as the In home newborn photographer. As of this year, I want to make the switch to in studio newborn photography. I used to bring the studio to your home but since I have gotten older 51 yrs and had a surgery late last year it just isn’t feasible for me to travel like I used to. I’ve been in business for over 11 yrs. I have photographed hundreds of newborns, babies and families and I think its time to make the switch. I can still come to your home but the price will be different. I will still offer on location outside photography.

In home sessions are going to be more expensive than studio sessions. Your photographer needs to plan and gather all of the appropriate props, pack up all of her equipment, travel to your home, set up the equipment, break down and pack up the equipment again, travel back and then unload the equipment and props again. She also needs to be skilled to handle different lighting scenarios and be able to work around other obstacles a studio photographer does not have to encounter.

A studio photoshoot gives your the opportunity to relax for a few hrs. There is no need to worry whether your home is clean. You just need to get yourself to the photographers home studio and remember to take anything you’d like to include in your images. I have a wide variety of props, outfits and wraps for a newborn that are all sanitized and cleaned after each session.

My home studio is cleaned and sanitized after each session. I have a large prop collection you could choose from if you decide to change your mind during your session. The lighting is consistent and we don’t have to worry about moving furniture and taping up your windows. I have a few games the siblings could play or an echo view they could be entertained after we have photographed them with the new baby or a parent could take them to daycare.

I will still offer lifestyle newborn photography but that is not my specialty I have many years training and have gone to conferences as well as 1:1 mentoring with the top newborn photographers in the US.

I have photographed maternity, newborns, and babies up to one year old and beyond n my studio. I have many backdrops for families and the littles one to choose from as well as burp cloths and more at my home studio.

I look forward to working with you in 2023!

Lifestyle Newborn Photography| Richmond, VA| Jacki G. Photography LLC| Newborn & Family Photographer

Welcome to the world little one. We did a mixture of posed and lifestyle with her session. I came to her home so to make the family more comfortable and for the lifestyle portion of the session. Big brother was so great with his sister considering he was under 2 yrs old.

I don’t charge extra to come to your home at this time. There is no travel time, no packing and no taking the baby out. The images are real and tell a story. For some clients, this moves them to tears. My job is to keep you calm, give you an amazing experience and capture your family in an artistic way that you will treasure for generations. I am here for you. Whichever way is better for your family, is better for me.

This first family had this amazing basement with stunning natural light, It was a dream for any photographer, plus having a beautiful momma and baby made the session even better.

This sweet baby girl was incredible at her newborn session. Just look at those full cheeks and sweet little face. I absolutely love photographing newborns. I can come to your home and bring the studio to you or you could come to my home studio. I loved the neutral colors we used for her session.

Sweet S. Newborn Portraits| Jacki G. Photography| Richmond, VA | Family & Newborn Photographer

If you’re a parent, I bet you remember what it was like just after your little one was born. That feeling of wanting to hold your baby close, even when others offered to give you a break. You weren’t ready for a break just yet. You could stare at those sweet, perfect features for hours. And when you did take a break or put baby down to rest, you were eager for a few more snuggles even though you desperately needed rest yourself.

I know the feeling. I’ve had three babies. And no amount of tiredness could keep me from gazing at those tiny toes and precious faces. That’s one of the reasons I become a newborn photographer. I wanted to preserve this fleeting time as brilliantly as possible, and I wanted to give other families that same gift.

S. parents contacted me well before her due date to schedule a newborn session as soon as possible after her arrival. They weren’t after any fancy props or themed sets. They just wanted to capture that perfect newborn bliss. She is their firstborn, and they wanted to take in every minute of this magical experience. Everything went smoothly, and we were able to get sweet S. into the studio at just eight days old – perfect timing to capture that true curled up newborn look.

We kept it simple just as they requested adding in just a few pink accents. S. slept the entire session without making a peep and was a perfect model! I could not get enough of her beautiful little lashes, button nose, and precious lips. What a sweetie!

Welcome to the world M. 6wks new| Richmond, VA| Family & Newborn Photographer| Jacki G. Photography

I usually encourage parents to bring baby to me when they are still under two weeks, or at least in the first month, if they want newborn style images of their sweet babies. But I know that cannot always happen. I would never turn away a client just because baby is “older”. I do, however, have to set expectations with the family. At 6+ wks old, I usually cannot get sleep curly newborn style images.

Sweet baby M. didn't fit the mold for a two month old baby girl. She slept for a little bit of her session and we were able to get some darling awake AND asleep shots of her. At this age if they do sleep I can usually only get them in one prop, asleep. Moving them usually wakes them. But she let us move her! It was definitely challenging, but SO worth the patience. I mean, how you can you resist these sweet images!

Oh and please take a moment to appreciate the best baby eyelashes I think I've ever seen! <3

Congrats to this beautiful family!

“Enjoy the little things in life, Because one day you will look back And realize they were the big things.”

Newborn sessions hold a special place in our heart. The ridiculous amount of love and happiness that fills the home always brings back a flood of memories of our own special time. There’s nothing more exciting than a brand new bundle of joy, and despite the lack of sleep and endless diaper changes, everyone is in awe of this sweet little bundle of joy.

Planning for your family portraits| Jacki G. Photography| Richmond, VA | Family & Newborn Photographer

Planning for your family photography session can seem overwhelming. There are so many factors that can influence your end result and are worth consideration prior to your shoot. And while your family photographer can remain fluid and flexible with respect to timing and location, and session structure, it is helpful if you – the client – considers your goals and planning points.

Your family photography session should be relaxed and fun, but keep in mind that it is an investment, and an important one that perhaps you’ve been saving for. With a little bit of extra thought and planning, you can be assured you are more than satisfied (and perhaps a little amazed!) with the final results!

When planning your family photography session, think about these 4 key “W” questions:
1. When (time of year),
2. Where (beach, city, park, meadow, home),
3. What time (time of day)
4. What to wear (casual, traditional, preppy, trendy, etc.)

And while you nail down those basic planning elements, take a step back and think about what you will DO with your images. Do you plan to:
• Create a keepsake album or coffee table book?
• Display images on your walls, and if so, to what size… will they be framed or canvases?
• Give gift prints?
• Share the images online and use in your personal photobooks and slideshows?

Once you’ve thought through those items, you will want to consider your family’s personality, your style, and the decor of your home.
• What type of family are you (sporty, preppy, beachy, traditional, casual)?
• Which room(s) are you most likely to display your images (foyer, family room, hallway/staircase, living room, bedroom)?
• What is the style, decor and color of that area (warm, cool, formal, modern, beachy, cottage, traditional)?

Next, describe your dream images – if you could have 5 images come out of your session, what would they look like?

Armed with these answers, regroup with your photographer and communicate your vision. Together you can come up with a game plan that will ensure you are on the same page and allow your photographer to deliver the type of images you have always dreamed of having for your home. Additionally, once you view your gallery, you are not arbitrarily looking at images, but instead selecting them with your specific goals in mind.

To make sense of this, consider viewing a gallery in two scenarios:

1. Without Family Photography Session Planning: “Huh, well, I like the family ones, but they are cropped tight and you can’t see the landscape and I think it will look funny over the beach house fireplace… plus, our winter, formal clothes don’t match the beachy decor.”

2. With Session Planning: ”Awesome, this is exactly what we wanted for the focal point wall gallery in the family room. I love it! The beach backdrop, the colors and our outfits are exactly what I had in mind when I thought of a story-telling canvas collection for above the fireplace.”

Remember, it’s your family photography session. You probably don’t have time (or energy) to repeat it at this exact stage in your life, so make sure that you stack the deck in your favor the first time! Your planning, preparation and communication will surely pay off and you will have personal art in your home that makes you smile every day, for years and years to come. Isn’t that what custom photography is all about? We think so.

I fell in love with this sweet, beautiful family the first time we met.  I photographed the birth of their first baby and had the honor of photographing this babies as well.   This was the most lovely experience , working alongside two incredible birth workers Midwife and their doula (Amy). The birth was fast and amazing.  Patricia was a Rock Star!   The family chose not to find out their baby's gender until the birth.  I hope you love reliving the day E. came earth side just as much as i have while piecing their story together.

Meet 8 day old Zoe:

Oh my….I know I say this all the time but seriously baby girl Zoe is just the prettiest baby girl!!  She has given me a bad case of baby fever, haha.  She just the sweetest little gal too, I could have snuggled with this cutie pie all day long.   She has the most gorgeous head of curly hair hair and the biggest most beautiful set of brown eyes I’ve ever seen on a newborn.  Zoe was very happy to keep those eyes open for most of the session.  Yep, she definitely knew something was up and she didn’t want to miss one single thing.  I love when newborns have such wonderful eye contact.  It’s rare to get a picture of them looking directly at me but with my paparazzi like skills (hehe) I’m able to wait for that perfect opportunity to get that most sought after picture.  It took a LOT of sweet talking to get Miss Zoe to fall asleep but once she did I was able to capture some very beautiful pictures of her.

Congratulations to this new family of 3!
