OMGoodness!

This beautiful baby boy was simply perfection during his newborn photo session in my Richmond, VA studio this past week. It's such a pleasure to photograph these littles.

At 3 weeks old I wasn’t sure if we were going to get a few tummy poses but he knocked it out of the park. He slept right through making it for a lovely, calm experience for his parents. They were able to have a little rest while I worked my magic.

I hope you enjoy a little looksie into his session. Contact me if you're interested in a newborn or baby photography session. Just email me an inquiry using my contact form and I will get back to you personally within a day.

Babies are best photographed before they are 10 days old but sometimes that doesn’t work out so I try my best to pose babies in a safe and comfortable setting.

Welcome to the world baby boy| Richmond, VA | Family & Newborn Photographer| Jacki G. Photography LLC

This adorable little man graced my studio last week for his newborn photography session. He is such q little doll and super cuddly. I know, it's a tough job... someone has to do it.
His big brother was so good with him! He slept great for most of his session in my short pump, VA home studio. In the end we did get an open eye shots which the parents wanted.

It is very important to follow the prep instructions for your newborn session. This will help keep the baby happy and easy to pose.

I hope you enjoy a peek into his photo shoot...

Little Miss L. 9 months old| Richmond, VA| Jacki G. Photography LLC| Newborn & Family Photography

Gorgeous baby Lainey is back in the studio! For her 9 month session. I have photographed her birth and every three months. This is a great way to capture your babies milestones!

She was all smiles and simply so fun to photograph.  We tried something different and used a pool backdrop since it was June to capture a fun summer feel.

I have a few options to the milestone package. There is a 3 session package which we can customize or a 5 session package as well that can be customized. The only session that must be in studio is the newborn session after that as long as the temp. don’t fall to low we can take some outside photos as well. Parents and sibligns are always included in the grow with me package.

I’m located in Short Pump, VA.

Time goes by so quickly in the first year. Funny, I don't feel any older.

I hope you enjoy a peek into her session...

Hiring a newborn photographer is more than just a price!

Please do your homework when hiring someone to work with your newest little bundle. I totally understand that pricing can be scary when it comes to hiring your photographer, but these are moments you will never get back! They are fragile and so small. Your photographer should be trained and highly experienced. You aren’t just paying for your photographer to take the images, you are paying for an experience. This is just a small portion of what goes into a newborn session.

There is planning, deciding on the colors you would like to use. Choosing props for the set up and following instructions to make the session move smoothly.

This is before and after of just the editing portion of 1 newborn pose. Most galleries are between 10-50+ images. Each image is edited and cared for so that each picture you recieve is perfect! A full gallery takes hours to cull, edit and refine. Consider all these when you are expecting a new baby. I love all my clients and am so thankful for the trust they put in me to capture these beautiful moments.

Please do your research before just hiring anyone to handle your sweet little baby.

Welcome to the world E. 3 wks new| Jacki G. Photography LLC| Richmond, VA| Family & Newborn Photography

This gorgeous baby girl needed a lot of coaxing to go to sleep but finally, we were able to get some beautiful shots of her. At 3 weeks old, this is the reason why we like to do newborn photographs between 5-10 days while baby is super sleepy still.

I hope you enjoy a quick look into her session.

This gorgeous baby girl was simply perfect for her newborn photo shoot. She slept like a dream and that allowed me to get tons of poses!

Here's just a sample of her newborn session. I can't wait to see her back for her sitter and cake smash sessions!

Please contact me if you'd like information on having your baby photographed in my studio. I would love to hear from you!

Baby E. 3 wks new | Richmond, VA | Jacki G. Photography LLC| Family & Newborn Photographer

Little Miss. E. was 3 wks new during her session. She took some time to settle but once she did we got some amazing poses. We have the studio set at 80 degrees with a heater so she is nice and warm during her session. This lovely baby girl brought so much joy into my studio.

Newborn sessions have the best results when the baby is under 10 days old. This is because they are still super sleepy and love to curl up. Newborn photo shoots are also best done before baby acne sets in at about 14 days. However, sometimes this can’t be done and an older baby we may have to work a little harder to get them into certain poses. Some poses such as the froggy pose may not be idea for an older baby but there are still several poses we can get an older baby into.

If you're thinking about a newborn photoshoot for your new baby, inquire early. I'm currently booking a few months out. If your newborn is already here feel free to reach out, occasionally I do have last-minute openings. I'm also now offering priority editing, you can opt to have your image gallery within 5 days of your session. It's a great way to get your images back right away, especially if you want to get those birth announcements out.  There is a fee for this service.

These are a few of the images I was able to capture of little Miss. E.

I am located in Short Pump, VA. I have been photographing newborns for over 11 years.

Newborn Poses| Jacki G. Photography LLC| Family & Newborn Photographer| Richmond, VA

I have been photographing newborns for over 11 yrs. I have taken several safety classes as well as attended newborn and baby workshops to perfect my skills. There are some staple newborn poses in which newborn babies are photographed. Here are some of the most common poses:

  1. The "Womb" Pose: This pose replicates the position the baby was in while in the womb, with their legs curled up and their arms close to their body.

  2. The "Taco" Pose: In this pose, the baby is swaddled tightly and placed on their side, with their knees tucked up towards their chest.

  3. The "Froggy" Pose: This pose has the baby on their stomach, with their head resting on their hands and their legs bent at the knee, resembling a frog.

  4. The "Huck fin" Pose: This pose has the baby lying on their back, with their arms and legs curled.

  5. The "Side" Pose: In this pose, the baby is lying on their side with their legs bent and their hands near their face.

  6. The "Prop" Pose: This pose involves the use of props like baskets, buckets, and blankets to support the baby in a variety of poses, such as sitting or lying down.

  7. The “Hands under chin” This pose baby is on stomach with wrist over each other babies back is arched.

  8. The “Potato pose” This pose baby is wrapped and place sitting up with a spotter, baby can also be placed on their back all wrapped up.

It's important to note that safety should always come first when photographing newborns. Parents should work with a professional photographer who is experienced in working with newborns and knows how to safely position them in these poses.

If you would like to book a newborn session the best time to photograph a newborn is before they are 14 days old. They are more likely to sleep and don’t mind to be molded into these positions. Not all babies will be able to do each pose.

Capturing Newborns in a studio setting| Jacki G. Photography LLC| Richmond, VA| Newborn & Family Photographer

As a newborn photographer, I have the privilege of capturing the beauty and innocence of brand new babies and the joy of the families welcoming them into the world. Newborn photography is a unique and special type of photography that requires a lot of patience, creativity, and a gentle touch.

One of the most important aspects of newborn photography is safety. When posing newborns, it's crucial to prioritize their comfort and well-being. This means using proper support and techniques to ensure that the baby is always secure and never in any danger.

In addition to safety, it's important to create a calm and relaxing environment for the photoshoot. Newborns can be unpredictable, so it's essential to be flexible and go with the flow. Taking breaks as needed, and rescheduling if the baby is fussy or not feeling well, is always the best course of action.

Creating beautiful and timeless images of newborns is also about finding the right poses and lighting. I like to use minimal props and clutter so to just focus on the new baby.

As a newborn photographer, it's a joy and a privilege to be able to capture these special moments for families. The bonds and love that I see between parents and their new arrival never fail to inspire me, and it's a honor to be able to preserve these memories for them through my photography.

Newborn Photography in Studio| Jacki G. Photography LLC| Newborn & Family Photography | Richmond, VA

A newborn photography session in a studio is usually scheduled within the first two weeks of a baby's life when they are most likely to be sleepy and more easily posed. The studio is typically set up with a variety of props, backdrops, and lighting equipment to create a comfortable and safe environment for the newborn.

Here's a step-by-step overview of what a newborn photography session in a studio might involve:

  1. Pre-session consultation: Before the session, the photographer may have a consultation with the parents to discuss their preferences, any specific poses or props they want to include, and to go over important details such as safety measures and session logistics.

  2. Studio setup: The studio will be arranged with various props such as blankets, wraps, baskets, and other accessories that may be used during the session. Backdrops and lighting equipment will also be set up to create a suitable environment for capturing beautiful images.

  3. Baby preparation: The baby will be carefully handled and prepared for the session, including being fed and burped, and then undressed and wrapped in blankets or props for the photos. The photographer will prioritize the safety and comfort of the baby at all times.

  4. Posing and photographing: The photographer will work to capture a variety of poses and expressions of the newborn, including solo shots, as well as shots with parents or siblings if desired. The photographer may use different props, poses, and angles to create a diverse and artistic gallery of images.

  5. Patience and flexibility: Newborn sessions can take time as babies can be unpredictable and may need breaks for feeding, diaper changes, or comforting. The photographer will exercise patience and flexibility to ensure the baby's comfort and well-being throughout the session.

  6. Post-processing: Once the session is complete, the photographer will select and edit the best images from the session, enhancing them with appropriate color correction, cropping, and other adjustments to create a polished final product.

  7. Viewing and ordering: The parents will be invited to a secure site to view and order the downloads from their session. They may also purchase additional products such as prints, canvases and albums.

Overall, newborn photography in a studio is a specialized genre that requires experience, safety precautions, and a gentle approach to handling and posing delicate newborns to capture precious memories that parents can cherish for a lifetime.

This is a composite image. Hands are on the baby at all times!! I use photoshop to take out the hands. Do not try this without proper training.

Creating beautiful and timeless images of newborns is also about finding the right poses and lighting. I love to use props and accessories when posing newborns but I make sure the baby is safe at all times, using parent to help out or an assistant. I don’t use a lot of distractions when posing newborns as I try to let the natural beauty shine through. I use studio lights to get a consistent look throughout all my images, I also like to use neutral colors so that I can provide a clean and timeless look.
