As a newborn photographer, I have the privilege of capturing the beauty and innocence of brand new babies and the joy of the families welcoming them into the world. Newborn photography is a unique and special type of photography that requires a lot of patience, creativity, and a gentle touch.

One of the most important aspects of newborn photography is safety. When posing newborns, it's crucial to prioritize their comfort and well-being. This means using proper support and techniques to ensure that the baby is always secure and never in any danger.

In addition to safety, it's important to create a calm and relaxing environment for the photoshoot. Newborns can be unpredictable, so it's essential to be flexible and go with the flow. Taking breaks as needed, and rescheduling if the baby is fussy or not feeling well, is always the best course of action.

Creating beautiful and timeless images of newborns is also about finding the right poses and lighting. I like to use minimal props and clutter so to just focus on the new baby.

As a newborn photographer, it's a joy and a privilege to be able to capture these special moments for families. The bonds and love that I see between parents and their new arrival never fail to inspire me, and it's a honor to be able to preserve these memories for them through my photography.

Welcoming a newborn into your family is a beautiful, emotional time. As a newborn and family photographer, I love when I have the opportunity to document these early days as everyone in the family gets to know its newest member. That’s why it was such a real pleasure to go to the clients homes where they can feel more comfortable. They have the option of coming to my home studio if they wish. Sunflower Cake Smash Session| Jacki G. Photography| Richmond,VA| Family & Newborn Photographer

Cake smash sessions have to one of my favorite sessions to photograph. Little Miss C. had a Sunflower cake smash studio session. A sunflower cake smash session is the perfect theme for a little girl born in the summer. The backdrop was just perfect and we added some real sunflowers. I usually take some portraits first then change outfits for the cake smash portion. Little C. loved her cake and dug right in.

I do have the letters ONE & the #1 for some portraits. Parents are included in some images as well.

Babies change and grow so quickly!  I love capturing the little details and personalities because in a blink of an eye it changes!  We often forget too quickly what they were doing when and these helps us remember.

I mean, just look at those rolls. .  Baby rolls never get old!  Never!!

If baby loves her cake i do have a sink to clean them up a bit before you leave.

i had so much fun photographing all these families at the Sunflower field this year! Thank you for coming out during this pandemic. The field was just breath taking. Alvis Farms was an incredible host for the sunflower festival. Their 50+ acre sunflowers were the perfect backdrop for family photos.

It’s true. There is a preferred age when photographing a newborn. And there are some photographers that will only photograph a baby during those few weeks. But guess what? I know life can get in the way. And while pictures of your baby are certainly a priority for many, I completely understand why they get delayed … or forgotten. I am more than happy to photograph your new baby at any age. Older newborn photos can be just as beautiful as pictures you might have taken right after your new bundle arrived. I will tell any potential client that I prefer the baby to be under 3 weeks of age. And I do tend to find that these younger babies do best at their portrait sessions. However, there are always exceptions to the rule so if you’re questioning anything, please feel free to reach out and we can discuss your specific situation. As long as everyone has the right expectations, then photographing your baby at any age can result in photos you will cherish forever.

The perfect example of an older newborn is sweet C. below. Mom really wanted images of her sweet little one but due to covid she had to wait a few weeks. Baby C. was 8 weeks of age. Not an age I shoot a lot of since it’s right in between my two standard milestone sessions (newborn and 4 months). He was, for the most part, out of that curly, sleepy newborn stage. But wouldn’t you know it, he gave us that perfect mix of wrapped shots and wide-eyed awake shots.  There are so many portraits that I love from his session! His mom loved the toilet paper image the best. How cute is it that she has his initial put on the toilet paper to remember the time when he was born during a pandemic.

Loved working with this little cutie for her one year session. Her mamma wanted an ice cream backdrop so we got one and it matched her cake. So adorable. She wan’t too happy that day but we did get a few smiles. I love when families come back for their milestone sessions. We usually take family portraits first then we move to the cake smash as the end. Your baby can switch outfits and set up the decorations if you would like a different backdrop.

Since the start of the Coronavirus going around I wanted to explain the safety steps Jacki G. Photography is taking to ensure your safety.

I have been a newborn photographer for 9 years.  I always practice special precautions to make sure the studio is cleaned and sanitized properly before, during, and after each session. I regularly clean the studio. but especially  during this pandemic , with the Coronavirus going around I am taking extra precautions.

Since I am also a traveling newborn photographer, I make sure that all of my equipment is cleaned and sanitized before each session. If you or your child is sick please contact me to reschedule your session. I do not mind rescheduling. it is better to be safe. If you do bring a sick child in my studio or I arrive at your home and their is a sick child, I will cancel the session without refund.  Please don’t spread any kind of sickness.  We want to keep everyone healthy. 

I  keep/bring hand sanitizer in the studio and to your home session. I wash my hands before the session and will use hand sanitizer during the session. I wash my backdrops/blankets before and after each session. I wipe down hard surfaces with Lysol cleaning wipes.  I also wipe down and clean the bathroom including door handles, light switches and so on. I have hand sanitizer in the bathroom too.  Please feel free to use the hand sanitizer. I ask that you do the same in the area I will be working in. I also bring a mask and gloves when working with newborns to make sure everyone is safe.

For cake smashes I use seamless paper. After each cake smash session I cut off the part we used and throw those away. buy the seamless paper new in packaging for each session. I wipe down any props what we use with Lysol wipes too.  I pride myself in making your child’s safety my first priority.

Its my birthday and I can cry if I want to….

it’s time for Spring Mini-Sessions and we couldn’t be more excited! I’m so glad to continue to offer our clients these awesome 15 minute sessions as they are such a great way to get everyone together for some updated photos! And I mean everyone. Mama’s, this year we had you specifically in mind. In our home, there’s one person that’s typically missing from our family photos…ME! This year, gift yourself (or drop some hints to your husband!) with the opportunity to get out from behind the camera and step into the frame with your family. You’ll be so glad you did!

We’re excited to announce our Spring 2020 Mini Session date!

Sat, April 25th, Sunday, May 3rd or Sat. May 23rd

$140 includes a 15 minute session with me, 5 high resolution images with the rights to print and the option to purchase additional images from the gallery . You’ll have a private online gallery for 2 weeks to review, select and download your 5 included images. All sessions are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. All mini sessions are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE due to the limited availability and high demand on our mini session dates. If it rains, the back up date will be Announced.  

The location TBD. You will receive an email the Wednesday before your date with the location. There is a deposit to hold your spot then the balance is due at the time of your session.

– Names & ages of the people in your session
– Will any pets be joining you?

4. Sign our session contract & pay for your session deposit ($50)

This sleeping angel is so very loved! I brought the studio to her home. This allows parents to be more relaxed and not worry if they forget something. This Deluxe Newborn session includes parents. The session takes a little longer but is more relaxed since it does take place in the comfort of your own home. Each newborn session is beautiful and unique in its own way. You get to choose the props and colors from my prop collection.

I photographed sweet R. 3 days after he was born. He was such a great sleeper and his Big brothers were so excited to show off their little brother.   Baby R. was such a good newborn for his newborn pictures. After being awake for pictures with his family, he slept for the remainder of his session and gave us some amazing newborn photos. I’ve photographed R. brothers and I look forward to working with his family.

Cake Smash sessions are so much fun.  Some kids smile a bunch, some are super serious, some cry, some do a mixture of all three, but watching kids try cake for the first time is really and enjoyable time no mater how they react to the cake.  Seeing their reaction to their cake smash session is so much fun and can make mom and dad really laugh during their session. I brought the studio to Miss K. for her 1-year cake smash session she was very serious and so adorable.  I mean, her facial expressions and beautiful eyes were amazing!

Santa minis were a HUGE HIT!! This was my first year photographing children with Santa and i thought it worked ….some kids were shy but given the 15 min some warmed up and we got great shots….others were still a bit shy but we still managed to get some great images.
