Newborn Photography with baby M. | Jacki G. Photography LLC| Newborn & Family Photographer| Richmond, VA

Introducing baby M. 7 days new. I had the honor of photographing her sister 11 months prior. I love when families come back as their family grows. Big sis did a great job with her little sister. Baby M. was just perfect for her Studio session at my home studio in Richmond, VA. Mom chose sage green and pink for her colors adn the bed and swing for props. The deluxe newborn session can take 2-3 hrs. The studio is warmed up to 80 degrees to help keep baby calm and sleepy. I try and photograph family and siblings first then concentrate on just baby. Please check out my website for more information. Here are a few from sweet M. newborn session.

Newborn Photography by Jacki G. Photography| Richmond, VA| Family & Newborn Photographer

The sweetest new family of 4 here on my blog today! I was able to capture this adorable family a few years ago for her sons sessions and was so happy to have this couple back for their newborn and family photoshoot! I cannot get over their baby girl and how well she did for her session and Big brother was so good with her. Here are a handful of my favorites from this in home studio newborn session!

Mom wanted a simple cream/white session for her sweet little girl. We also incorporated flowers and Moms wedding dress in some of the poses. Big Brother was a so good with his little sister considering he is still a baby himself. Mom also wanted more lifestyle instead of posed for their family portion of the session. The light in their basement was perfect. I brought the studio to the comfort of their home. I clean and sanitize everything after each session. These are a few of my favorites from her session.

Welcome to the world X. 11 days new| Richmond, VA| Jacki G. Photography| Family & Newborn Photographer

Studio newborn sessions are what I’m most known for and they are probably my favorite sessions to shoot. I love getting in my newborn cuddles! To have this many people trust me with their brand new babies means the word to me. I got to photograph Baby X. 11 days new. He was such a good model and Big Sis who is only 15 months old did amazing with him. I look forward to working with this family again.

Introducing C. 6 days new| Jacki G. Photography| Richmond, VA| Family & Newborn Photographer

Introducing C. 6 days new. I love when i get to photograph families as they grow. I photographed her older brother a few years back and now i got to meet his baby sister. I loved the simple white and creams used for her session. Its classic and i love when parents want to use simple yet classic setups for their newborn session. It was perfectly feminine for this sweet girl. Check out some of my favorite images from this studio session below:

Christmas Baby| Richmond, VA| Jacki G. Photography| Jacki G. Photography| Family & Newborn Photographer

I love when families come back to me to photograph their second, third etc. babies. I photographed little D. his first year using the Grow with me package and the family booked the same Grow with me package for their little Girl. She was born on Christmas Day which is really awesome. She slept for the last half of her session. I brought the studio to the families home. Everything i use is cleaned and sanitized after each use. I wear a mask and make sure that everyone is healthy before we begin. Mom picked out creams and pinks for little P. newborn session. Newborn sessions are best booked before baby is 14 days old so that the baby will sleep and like to be posed . These are just a few of my favorite images from the session. I look forward to documenting her grow.

Introducing C. 2 wks new | Jacki G. Photography| Richmond, VA| Family & Newborn Photography

I truly love it when my clients come back for new family members. I photographed big Brothers when he was just a few weeks old. And I loved seeing this beautiful and sweet family again. They booked the Grow with me package which include three sessions as least. Little C. was 2 wks old and just the cutest little boy. He did so well during his session. Big Brother who is just 17 months old loved holding his little brother.

I look forward to documenting his first year.

Lifestyle photography| Jacki G. Photography| Richmond, VA| Family & Newborn Photographer

G. was 8 days old when i traveled to VA beach for his newborn session. I photographed his older brother a few years prior. I love when i get to photograph families as they grow their families.

The family was so adoable during the session. Big Brother wasn’t that interested in baby brother but i did manage to get a few great shots of them together. I took some posed portraits of the family and siblings then we took a few lifestyle images as well to round out this adorable session.

For the first half of the newborn session G. was wide awake and eager to show me his gorgeous eyes that sparkled just like his mothers! In all my years of photographing newborns the ones where they look straight into my lens has to be one of my all-time favorites. When a newborn baby looks right at you with eyes as big as dinner plates, you can’t help but wonder what they’re thinking about and what beautiful things they will see in their lifetime. Getting to be part of that world is something I will never get tired of experiencing.

Capturing parents with their babies is so important to me – it’s a tangible memory you’ll never want to forget, and one you’ll cherish as your little one grows into a bigger version of themselves. That’s why newborn photography is so special to me, and why I absolutely adore my job as a photographer (which is more like a passion than work!). I’m essentially creating a blueprint for your life with your child, and you’ll have tons of stunning images to look back on to remember the sweet moments you spent, holding your newborn in your arms, gushing over how much you love them.

These are just a few of the images from G. gallery.

When to schedule your newborn session| Jacki G. Photography| Richmond, VA | Family & Newborn Photography

When to schedule your newborn session is one of the first and most important questions I get from expecting mamas.  It’s a good one.  The confusing part is you hear different answers from different photographers.  The good news is there is no wrong answer, but you have to figure out what is the right answer for you and the type of newborn photography you are looking for.

Ask yourselves these key questions to help narrow down the style (and timeframe) that will work best for you:

babyboy

1.  What style of newborn photography are you drawn to?

Do you love posed newborn photos where your little bundle of joy is sleeping soundly all curled up on her tummy or in a beautiful swaddle?  Posed newborn photos usually take place in a studio-type setting and have very clean and simple backgrounds.(my preference and style!),

froggy

Perhaps you prefer a lifestyle approach which basically means less posed images in a natural environment (whether it’s at home or outside) portraying a “slice of life” in an artistic way with some posing and direction from the photographer.  In the case of a newborn session, this could mean mama cuddling with her newborn baby in the nursery, baby yawning in dad’s arms, etc., & being mindful of composition and cleanliness of the background while telling a story.

lifestyle

The last most common approach is documentary newborn photography.  In documentary photography, the photographer is strictly observing and giving no directional input about posing to the subjects.  The photographer is not manipulating anything, but is instead observing and recording this new phase in your life with your newborn.

lifestylephotography

2.  If you prefer the posed newborn photos, most photographers love to work with babies that are 3-10 days old for several reasons.  They sleep a LOT which makes for a smooth session. They are extremely flexible, which helps the photographer get the poses you see (although note that some poses are compositions of two separate photos taken then photoshopped together to always make sure baby is safe and secure).  Last, they still have that newborn look which is highlighted in this type of photography.

3.  If you prefer the latter two options, you have a little more leeway, regarding when to schedule your session.  Some photographers will have a specific window in baby’s age where they are willing to book the session, and others will not.  So I ask you this:  if you prefer lifestyle or documentary photography, how important is it to you to capture your new little one in the sleepy, tiny, frail, no-chubby-cheeks-or-baby-rolls phase?  Are you overwhelmed with starting your new normal at home while getting sleep, making it to doctor’s appointments, and more?  How much time are you able to spend on your newborn session?  When choosing a photographer think about these questions and what they recommend and consider what works best for you.

I love capturing the sweet little newborn phase, but when I work with my families I never push a specific window.  I instead recommend we schedule the session within the first two weeks to give moms and dads time to adjust to their new normal and manage all the things that go along with it.  I believe the style of newborn photography I create – is clean, organic, simple and shows connection with the siblings and parents.

4.  The last important part you will want to consider is how often you are going to schedule a photography session during your baby’s first year of life.  Are you interested in capturing him or her growing and reaching those important milestones?  Perhaps you’ll leave your cell phone up to that but it’s important to you to invest in a similar high-quality artistic session once per year.  There is no wrong answer, and many photographers typically have many options for you, including myself.  I offer a Grow with me session which includes three sessions and you can book additional sessions for a discounted rate.

Every photographer has a different philosophy and will have a different recommendation on when to schedule your newborn session, I hope these tips and guidelines above will help you narrow down what you are truly looking for with your newborn session and choosing a photographer.  Please email me if you have any questions!

Welcome Baby R. | 9 days new| Richmond, VA | Family & Newborn Photographer| Jacki G. Photography

I traveled to Baby R. parents house for her petite newborn photography session in Richmond, VA

R. was such a good newborn for her newborn pictures. After being awake for a few images. she slept for the remainder of his session

I got to know mom a little more during his session and found out that mom is a teacher so we chatted because my daughter would like to become a teacher when she becomes an adult.

Welcome to the world Triplets| Jacki G.Photography| Richmond, VA| Family & Newborn Photographer

I had the opportunity to photograph triplets a few weeks ago. I love babies, it’s obvious, right? I do, I love photographing them, holding them all of IT!! So, of course, the more the merrier but I will say the thought of photographing my first set of TRIPLETS made me a little nervous. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Well, these three beautiful girls made it effortless. I was OVER THE MOON, they are all gorgeous, including their big brothers whom I haven’t seen for about a year. You know mom and dad have their hands full but they make it look easy.
